The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in employing video review technology.
Replay technology will be launched at The Championships in the upcoming tournament.
Players are granted the option to contest certain rulings made by the chair umpire, echoing the protocol currently in place at each of the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.
The new system is slated for use on Centre Court and the number one court throughout the Championships and on the remaining featured courts when they are hosting singles matches.
This development arrives only a year after the AELTC rolled out electronic line calling, which effectively ended the 147-year tradition of line officials.
Scope of Challenges
Competitors will not be permitted to challenge the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but they can request the umpire to review other situations, such as:
- Whether a ball has double-bounced.
- If a shot made contact with an rival's racket or body on the way past.
- Potential interference at the conclusion of a point.
Notably, there is an unlimited number on the amount of challenges a player can request.
Case in Point
A recent example occurred in a recent tournament recently, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against his opponent.
The British player conceded it was a tough situation for the official, but believed his rival had "used the regulations effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte watched a video and ruled the player was responsible for hindrance, granting the rally to his opponent.
Wider Implementation
This technology aren't new for major tournaments. The system has been in use at the US Open since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by next season the ATP circuit will have the system in place at every one of its tournaments.
Further Updates
Another change at The Championships 2025 will be the addition of visual indicators on displays to support the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This solves instances where the crowd have sometimes been unsure if a ball was out or in.
Finally, with precisely a century of days to go until the start of the Championships, organizers have further revealed an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
