It's tough for Australia to break new ground.

The greatest achievements have long been mastered.

This is the squad that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to six more T20 titles, and earlier maintained nearly four years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, the ones sought by the peak baggers, are all that remain for a team that has achieved everything.

That it took until Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase above 300, taking back their record for the highest in the female 50-over format, is, honestly, a compliment to the pitchers that have worn canary yellow over the past 50 years.

It's difficult for their batters to hold a record if never given the opportunity.

Ultimately, the consequence of Australia allowing 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy receiving an opportunity to produce her newest gem.

Then best known as the 19-year-old niece of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after her nation couldn't capture either of the T20 or ODI World Cups conducted earlier and has witnessed all through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 championship victory arrived three months after her first appearance and seven global championships have come from 10 efforts across formats.

The tough gloveman was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India temporarily stopped the run of success.

That loss "drove us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy said this week.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the title decider and was awarded tournament MVP. She guaranteed her country would not fail again.

Whether this latest epic knock exceeded that prior achievement remains open for discussion.

Some will argue the reasoning behind final game tension. Different voices suggest with the difficulty that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's clear is this century was much more difficult to predict.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 happened while she topped the run-scoring charts, but this innings came after six matches in India over the past few weeks in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've been watching me in practice sessions, it's been a challenging time because it seemed my form was missing whatsoever," commented Healy.

"But once you enter the playing area, your competitive nature kick in and you simply focus on the match."

Healy's competitiveness has consistently been her great strength - and a priceless quality in taking over from legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, dismissed by the emerging pace bowler in all three matches, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's inspiration.

One run resulted off Gaud's first delivery and from there Healy was underway.

"The possibility to play and face the challenge with her and just have a bit of fun in that aspect, kind of motivated me," commented Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 pitches - her quickest at the global tournament - and her ton in 84 balls as she punished short deliveries, scoring 21 fours and three maximums.

When she was out the team required another 66 at one run per ball - an unconquered height now needing a comfortable finish.

"Pursuing 330 is uncharted waters so I'm happy we have the assurance to achieve that now," added Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to repeat it but, if we do, we believe we can do it."

Those words will be the final thing Australia's opponents at this World Cup should hear.

In recent days a belief they will triumph from any situation has grown stronger - this success following success over Pakistan by 107 runs despite being 76-7 at a certain moment.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a meeting with longtime competitors England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final place may probably be guaranteed.

It was at that stage they exited the prior year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a game Healy missed because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the initial instance at a major tournament.

So great is her will, she afterwards commented she wanted to have participated despite the injury.

But while she afterwards confessed those fitness problems have pushed back plans to retire, this championship is expected to be her final tournament as skipper in 50-over cricket and she is yet to win an international tournament as skipper.

Success in India would bring her to the top of her final mountain.
