An extensive two-month journey through the Land Down Under is being halted following the death of an senior female passenger who was abandoned by the ship on a distant island.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the tropical location with shipmates from the Coral Adventurer, but broke off from the group for a break. The liner left without her and went back several hours later after the personnel realised the passenger was not present.

An extensive rescue mission located her remains the following day.

Authorities are investigating the tragedy, alongside police and the official investigator.
